Watsu is a form of aquatic bodywork as a synthesis of Water and Shiatsu. WATSU incorporates the stretches of Shiatsu in a warm water environment. The client is held and floated in the water and moved through a series of gentle stretches and rotations. The warmth and continuous support provided by water is ideal for promoting deep relaxation and for freeing the joints and muscles of the body from the compressive and constrictive effects of gravity. Massage is incorporated during stillness and movement patterns to completely stretch muscle and soft tissue through their full range of motion. When the whole body is in continue movement each move flowing gracefully into the next, relaxation is facilitated and fear of pain is decreased. Without pain the body can be moved beyond previous limitations. New life stretches into long neglected connective tissue and the once restricted body shows new possibility of freedom. WATSU
